Visit These 4 Attractions for the Best Mountain Views in Gatlinburg
Located at the doorstep of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the city of Gatlinburg, TN offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in America. Over 11 million people visit Gatlinburg each year to admire the area’s incredible natural beauty. To help you make the most of your next vacation, we have put together a guide to four attractions that provide the best mountain views in Gatlinburg.
1. Gatlinburg Sky Lift
The Gatlinburg Sky Lift is one of the most iconic attractions in the Smoky Mountains! Established in 1954, this fun chairlift ride takes passengers on a 1,800 feet journey from downtown Gatlinburg to the top of Crockett Mountain.
The Sky Lift recently underwent major renovations that have made the ride even better than before. The new Sky Lift features 92 chairs that can seat three passengers and taller towers and cross arms, which places passengers 8 – 10 feet higher in the air.
As you climb to the peak of Crockett Mountain on the Sky Lift, you will enjoy gorgeous views of The Strip and the Great Smoky Mountains. The ride to the mountain’s summit is 9 minutes long and the ride back to the Parkway is also 9 minutes long.
The Gatlinburg Space Needle also offers some of the very best mountain views in Gatlinburg. Standing at 407 feet tall, this striking observation tower provides 360-degree vistas of downtown Gatlinburg and the Smokies. If you want to get a closer look at any of the area’s landmarks, you can use one of the free view finders at the top of the tower.
For a romantic date with your sweetheart, we recommend visiting the Gatlinburg Space Needle at night. In the evening, guests at the tower will have the chance to admire the glittering lights of downtown Gatlinburg.
In addition to its signature observation tower, the Gatlinburg Space Needle is also home to a thrilling escape game, a fun arcade, a great pizza restaurant, and a theater that hosts magicians and other family-friendly acts.
3. Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook
Located on the Gatlinburg Bypass, the Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook is one of the most photographed views in East Tennessee. When you pull over at one of the designated parking areas along the Bypass, you will enjoy breathtaking vistas of the city of Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
What makes the view from the Overlook so stunning is the dramatic contrast between the Gatlinburg skyline and the national park. While the city rests at an elevation of around 1,300 feet, the highest peak in the mountains stands at 6,593 feet tall. The difference in elevation is one vertical mile, the largest contrast of its kind in the eastern United States!
The Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway is the most convenient (and scenic) way to get from The Strip to the Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area. For over 40 years, this wonderful cable car ride has been transporting visitors to the top of Mt. Harrison.
Passengers on this 2.1-mile journey will be treated to spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains. Although Ober Gatlinburg is most famous for its skiing and snowboarding, both the resort and the aerial tramway are open all year long.
