Are you looking to go on a spooky adventure during your visit to the Smokies? If so, we’ve got you covered! We can help you make an awesome itinerary, whether you’re in town around Halloween or just want to check out some frightening fun activities with your family and friends. Here is a list of the best haunted attractions in Gatlinburg:
1. Ghost Tours
Visitors can go on a ghost tour to learn about the spooky history of the Smokies! There are several ghost walks and tour companies in the area, but The Ghosts of Gatlinburg Tour is for all ages! It begins at St. Mary’s Church in downtown Gatlinburg. The group will then travel to the Gatlinburg Inn and the White Oak Flats Cemetery. Another option for older visitors (16 and up) is the Grave Intentions Tour that dives into Cherokee folklore and other legends. Visitors who are 21 and older can participate in the Gatlinburg Haunted Pub Tour. It starts at the Martha Jane Ogle cabin. Listen to ghost stories while sipping on spirits.
Keep in mind that all of these tours are nighttime outdoor activities. With that being said, it is a good idea to dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes. Can’t make it during the fall season? You’ll be happy to know that ghost tours are available nightly year-round!
2. The Mysterious Mansion

Another one of Gatlinburg’s haunted attractions (and perhaps the most iconic) is the Mysterious Mansion! Located on River Road near Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, it has operated since 1980, which means this attraction is the longest-running haunted house in Gatlinburg! The unguided tour features a three-story, turn-of-the-century mansion with lots of authentic decor. Wander into the various rooms to encounter secret staircases and passageways. You never know what could be around the corner! While the attraction is open year-round, there are special Halloween shows on October weekends, with even more scares!
Helpful Tip: The Mysterious Mansion doesn’t open until the afternoon, so we recommend spending the morning at the aquarium next door. You can save money by using our Gatlinburg aquarium coupons!
3. Ripley’s Haunted Adventure
Ripley’s Haunted Adventure is another haunted attraction in Gatlinburg, well-known for its live actors and special effects! Inside the fictional abandoned casket factory, visitors will be met with many spirits. Horror fans will be on the edge of their seats as they walk through and wait for a scare. You’ll never know what you’ll find around every turn. While Ripley’s Haunted Adventure is open year-round, there are Fright Nights in the month of October for even more fun!
Helpful Tip: Buying tickets to other Ripley’s attractions? We highly recommend the combo tickets: the more attractions you visit, the more money you save!
