Just a few years ago, Anakeesta launched its biggest expansion yet, but even more exciting updates are coming in 2026! Gatlinburg attractions are always improving, which just gives you even more things to look forward to for future visits! Here is everything we know so far about the Anakeesta expansion in 2026:
What’s Coming
Here is an overview of the improvements coming to Anakeesta in Gatlinburg TN:
- Next Generation Scenic Lift: Anakeesta’s new scenic lift will have increased capacity. There will be 56 cabins that hold up to 6 people each. They will be all glass, which means that visitors can better admire the scenery on the short ride.
- Improvements to Firefly Village: Firefly Village will have new pathways to explore. See the stunning water features and the new overlook. When you’re done with the walk, relax in the comfortable seating.
- Improvements to Treetop Skywalk: The longest tree-based Skywalk in North America will have new canopy pathways that lead to new towers. Look out the window to see breathtaking mountain views.
- New Firefly Experience: Anakeesta’s Firefly Experience is expected to be completed last. It will have twinkling lights that mimic the synchronous firefly event in the Smoky Mountains, which takes place every spring. This can be best viewed at night.
More Things to Know
While Anakeesta is undergoing all these exciting improvements, keep in mind that the attraction will be closed from January until March. When the park opens back up, the scenic lift will be closed. Visitors will get to Anakeesta by riding the Ridge Rambler, which will drop visitors off in the Black Bear Village area.
About Anakeesta in Gatlinburg
While the construction will continue in March, visitors will still be able to experience the fun activities in the park! Look out of the Anavista Smoky Mountain Observation Tower to see stunning views. Walk along the Vista Gardens and explore Birdventure, an aviary-inspired adventure zone.
There are other great activities not included in your general admission ticket. Take a ride on one of the thrilling mountain coasters. The Rail Runner is the first single-rail track of its kind, and the Hellbender Mountain Coaster is named after the largest salamander in the Smokies. Go at your own pace as you speed down the coaster’s twists and turns. Another add-on activity is the Dueling Zipline Adventure, one of the best Gatlinburg ziplines! You will feel like a bird as you zoom through the trees. There are 3 lines side-by-side, so your travel group will be able to race!
When you get hungry, you won’t have to go back down for a delicious snack or meal. A great place to go is the Clifftop Restaurant. They have a menu of delicious dishes that everyone will love, including mac and cheese, burgers, and chicken wings! There are great desserts too! Adult guests can sip their favorite beverage or try a local craft beer at the full bar. Sit outside to see views of Mount LeConte, the third-highest peak of the Smokies.
