The 3 Best Shows in Gatlinburg for Your Next Vacation
The Smoky Mountain area has built a reputation for its world-class family entertainment, and Gatlinburg, TN is no exception! Our charming city is home to a number of wonderful theaters that host comedians, hypnotists, magicians, mentalists, and even more great performers. To help you make the most of your next vacation, we have put together a guide to the three best shows in Gatlinburg.
1. Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre
The Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre has been delighting visitors to Gatlinburg for over 40 years. Styled after the music halls of the late 19th century, this one-of-a-kind theater specializes in hilarious musical comedies. Over the decades, the Sweet Fanny Adams team has written and produced over 30 original shows, many of which have gone on to be performed in Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and other cities around the country. The Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre has been recognized as a National Historical Treasure by the city of Gatlinburg and the Tennessee State Senate.
The shows at Sweet Fanny Adams are made up of side-splitting sketches that are reminiscent of old vaudeville acts, the Carol Burnett Show, and Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Performances are typically 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission. Sweet Fanny Adams runs a number of different shows throughout the year, so you can come back again and again for all new laughs.
Guy Michaels Comedy Hypnosis is another one of the best shows in Gatlinburg. As a licensed hypnotist and hypnotherapist, Guy Michaels has honed his ability to influence willing participants with only the sound of his voice. When he is not helping his patients quit smoking or overcome insomnia, Michaels uses his power of persuasion in the service of comedy.
At his show in Gatlinburg, Guy hypnotizes volunteers from the audience and convinces them to engage in ridiculous antics on stage. Once you’re under Guy’s spell, he can make you cluck like a chicken, play an invisible piano, or dance around the theater. Audience members must be at least 12 years old to get on stage, but younger guests can still enjoy being hypnotized right from their seats. Unlike some of the hypnotists in Las Vegas, Guy Michaels keeps his show 100% clean and kid-friendly.
3. Impossibilities: An Evening of Magic, Mindreading, and Mayhem
Located at the Iris Theater in the Gatlinburg Space Needle, the Impossibilities show is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before! Starring master mentalist Erik Dobell and magical comedian Chris Collins, this awesome show combines jaw-dropping tricks with laugh-out-loud comedy. Dobell and Collins have performed all around the world and have been featured on a number of TV shows, including America’s Got Talent.
The Iris Theater is a small venue that provides an intimate atmosphere for the Impossibilities show. Even with the performers just a few feet away, you’ll still have no idea how they execute their mind boggling illusions! Many audience members report scratching their heads weeks after the show as they contemplate the incredible tricks from Dobell and Collins.
